Outside Rock Mill Centre, you’ll find a charming cobbled courtyard that’s available to hire outside of our opening hours. The space hosts our Incredible Edible planters, filled with herbs and seasonal plants for visitors to enjoy, and overlooked by the striking Lost Species mural by artist Shaun Azrak, a beautiful artwork celebrating biodiversity and creativity. The courtyard offers a relaxed, characterful setting that’s perfect for private events such as outdoor workshops, live music and community meetings. (It is unavailable for use when the Centre is open to ensure there is full public access to the building).

The Library is our largest room and a welcoming space for talks, presentations, and group events. With its flexible seating, and original features, the room has a relaxed and open feel that encourages conversation and creativity. It’s the ideal space for community talks, workshops, and meetings, offering flexible seating and a calm, characterful atmosphere that helps people feel at ease.

The Exhibition Space is a versatile area designed to showcase artwork, photography, and creative projects. With white walls and adjustable directional spotlights, it provides a beautiful backdrop for exhibitions, pop-ups, and community displays. The space can be adapted for solo shows or group events, offering a welcoming environment that celebrates local creativity and connection. If you’re a local artist looking for somewhere to exhibit your work, Rock Mill Centre is a supportive place to share your creativity with the community.

The Family Room at Rock Mill Centre offers a warm, comfortable space for meetings, small gatherings, and creative sessions. With small tables, natural light, and homely touches, it provides a relaxed atmosphere that encourages conversation and collaboration. There are lots of children’s games and books too.

Perfect for community groups, informal workshops, or quiet co-working, The Family Room is designed to help people feel at ease. If you’re a local artist, maker, or organiser looking for a friendly space to connect or create, the Rock Mill Centre offers an inviting setting to bring your ideas to life.

(The Family Room can also become The Littlest Theatre in New Mills if you have a show to put on!)

The Once & Future Room Houses an animated display featuring the Wild Peak initiative and linked nature activities, as well as a beaver pool on the floor. There is direct access from the courtyard and both internal doors can be closed to give an entirely independent space for small meetings or events. Particularly if they are nature based!

The cafe has a long bench seat and two tables, which gives space for small informal meetings. It can also be used with the Flowing Together Room to increase capacity for talks and events.

The walls and floor feature murals of the river and local green spaces, and information about local community events creating a vibrant space full of connections.

The Welcome Counter is a bright airy reception space that welcomes people into the Centre and to New Mills. It is an ideal room to use to bring people into your event and has facilities to make hot and cold drinks and serve food.

The kitchen has a fridge and freezer and facilities for warming food prepared elsewhere. There are crockery, cutlery and glasses for sixty people plus a dishwasher.

Rock Mill Centre provides a toilet for public use in the centre of New Mils. It has been made as accessible as possible in the space we have through the support of HPBC, Commsave Credit Union and private loans to the Centre.

The toilet is now as pictured, with a space to fit most wheelchairs, lower fittings (including a mirror) and a shelf for stoma users. These improvements were made with advice from Access High Peak.

One of the rooms at Rock Mill Centre houses the archive of the Brian Nolan Art Trust. There is a small display about Brian, his works are exhibited at the Centre for two months every year and the archive is available for consultation through the Trust, see:
