The Space

The building and courtyard (a former butchers!) are ours to play with thanks to the kind generosity of Brian and Gillian Stanway.

We are part of the High Peak Welcoming Spaces and Safe Space High Peak. We seek to provide a warm, relaxing environment for anybody to use.

The Rooms

All spaces are available for hire and use, from Wednesday to Sunday, as are the display boards!

Kitchen – We have a small warming kitchen from where we serve plant based food food for the monthly Supper Clubs. Hot drinks and water refills always available.

Reception Space – talk to our incredible volunteers, order a drink (our Rock Mill Roast is made by Peak Bean), pick up a map, leaflet or print from a local artist.

Living Rooms – The Men’s Repair Shed have built a bench seat with tables. The central room has a sofa, bookshelf and games. We have this set up as The Littlest Theatre in New Mills, where we can host puppet shows.

Library – our biggest room for any talks, and where we have installed a local display, Flowing Together

Mine and archive – we have rebuilt the mine experience and installed storage for the archive of Brian Nolan, a local artist

Once & Future – a purpose built interactive display that shows how the local landscape has been used since the Stone Age, and what a Wild Peak future could look like. This was created by Stand + Stare with the artist Phoebe Swan.

They also worked together to paint A river runs through it, a floor mural that runs through the Centre and has wall flaps showing the features of a healthy river.

The river starts and ends in the Courtyard – a cobbled delight we want to see filled with life and seating, and the site of the Lost Species public mural by Shaun Azrak.

Toilet - we have refitted this to improve accessibility with the help of HPBC and Access High Peak. It is open for public use during our regular open hours
