Rock Mill Centre began in Summer 2022.

A small group took on the lease of the former Heritage and Information Centre at short notice because we believe in the future community value of the building. We have been supported by our landlords, Brian and Gillian Stanway, and a growing number of volunteers, including some of the team who previously ran the Heritage and Information Centre.

We formally launched the Centre on March 21st 2023.

We want to work with our community to create a space where we can spend time together, share local knowledge and adapt to global challenges together.

Our initial funding has come mostly from private donations. So far we have also had small grants from the Transition Network, HPBC, and Commsave. We open as a Warm Welcome Space with the support of Derbyshire County Council.

We cover some costs by running a small cafe, selling work by local artists and producers and renting rooms for meetings. To be sustainable in the long term we need to make many more grant applications and to have lots of community support! We have recently become a Community Interest Company to ensure the Centre has a future as a community asset

We rely on volunteers to open and run the Centre.

Please come and visit us, share your ideas and get involved – this is your space too...

Our purpose:

  • to provide a safe, inviting, accessible community facility for New Mills and the surrounding area

  • to help individuals, groups and the wider community to grow, bond, create and learn

  • to promote environmental responsibility

Ours to share, Yours to enjoy
